Fort Harssens is the only armoured coastal fort in the Netherlands and is part of Stelling Den Helder.<\/p>\n
Unique military heritage by the sea<\/strong><\/p>\n Built in 1885 on the Harssens sandbank overlooking the Molengat channel, it housed the largest fort cannons in the Netherlands. Each turret rotated 360 degrees and fired projectiles up to 7 kilometers away.<\/p>\n Forgotten, but not lost<\/strong><\/p>\n The fort was abandoned in 1920. During the war, the cannons disappeared. Later, the fort was rebuilt by the navy. In 2010, its rediscovery began: moats were cleared and parts were restored.<\/p>\n Visit this hidden stronghold<\/strong><\/p>\n Today, Fort Harssens is partially accessible again.
