Light art route Den Helder
WINTER SEVEN: FOUR WEEKS OF LIGHT ART IN DEN HELDER
In 2016, City Marketing started with just a single light object on the former facade of V&D in Beatrixstraat near Den Helder station. One in which the residents could directly participate in their submitted bottle mail, love letters and digital messages were projected in the center in the theme "Leave and Return". Over the years, the atmosphere of art and light grew more and more into a true route through the city center to the nautical Rijkswerf Willemsoord. The light art route "Helder Licht" is now a true concept with many light installations, well-known artists, activities and tours, followed by interest from the entire region.
Below are some atmospheric photos from previous years.
On Beatrixstraat, the ice rink is integrated into the light route and recognizable from afar. On the facade of the Blokker you can see a five-minute video mapping, a colourful underwater story by artist Noortje van den Eijnde. This projection is about the interplay between geometric and organic elements and movements.
Further down Beatrixstraat, the 3D drawing by Chris de Potvis “comes to life” and the maritime history of Den Helder moves around the Double Bollard.
There is a large kaleidoscope in the attractively illuminated city park on Julianaplein. If you venture into the middle of it and look up, you will experience an impressive light show accompanied by music.
Children from Villa Kakelbont and students at the primary schools De Lichtlijn and De Duijnvaerder have made the “Plastic Kwal” (Plasic Jellyfish) at Willemsoord and the “Zeedieren” (Sea Animals) in a window of the former V&D using waste plastic. Both projects aim to raise awareness about the “plastic soup” in the oceans.
There are various activities during the light art route. There are guided tours, the ice rink is open, a Photography by Night workshop is being held on 21 December and the city centre has its X-Mas Shopping Night on 22 December.
The light art route was established by Citymarketing Den Helder. It was made possible by Helder Vastgoed BV, the Municipality of Den Helder, Stichting Ondernemen aan Zee, Stichting Top van Holland, Zeestad BV, Willemsoord BV, Rabobank Kop van Noord-Holland, Helderse Ondernemersvereniging Binnenstad, VCOB, Theater de Kampanje and many others.
