The historical tours at Fort Erfprins will, subject to change, resume in April, taking place on the first Saturday of each month: May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 6, and the final one on October 4.
The current Fort Erfprins (formerly known as “Fort Lasalle”) is an authentic defensive structure that is part of the 'Stelling van Den Helder'.
Covering approximately 49 hectares, it is the largest fort in the Netherlands, where the atmosphere from 1810-1980 is still palpable. The fort is located on the defense grounds of the naval barracks Erfprins, which is still used as an operational military site and is therefore generally closed to the public.
Visitors must register in advance (mandatory) for a tour. This can be done via the 'online registration form' on the website www.forterfprins.nl, where more information is also available. Joining a tour on the day itself is not possible. A maximum of 20 people can participate, and the cost is €5 per person.
Access to the tour is allowed from the age of 14 (up to 17 years old under adult supervision).
Unfortunately, the fort is not accessible for people with mobility impairments. Due to uneven floors and thresholds, visitors must wear comfortable, sturdy shoes. The underground areas maintain a constant temperature of approximately 14 degrees Celsius, so visitors are advised to wear warm clothing, a jacket, or a sweater.
Fort Erfprins is not open during Open Monument Days.
