Guided tour, History
Are you joining us for a tour of this incredible fort? The lesser-known "Fort op de Harssens," a coastal artillery fort built by the Dutch between 1880 and 1886, was and still is part of the Stelling Den Helder. What will you experience? An authentic fort (without furnishings or installations) where time seems to have stood still. The atmosphere of 1900 is still tangible. What should you keep in mind? Some areas are slightly dark (the guides carry flashlights), there are thresholds, corridors can be narrow, and everything is underground. The fort is not accessible for wheelchair users. Children are only allowed under adult supervision. Fort Harssens is located on defense grounds. Access is only granted if you register in advance with your first name, last name, and date of birth. How to get there? The fort is located beneath the harbor office and the Royal Netherlands Navy Yacht Club on Bevesierweg in Den Helder. More information will be provided upon reservation. It’s important to book your spot at least five days before the planned tour. Each tour can accommodate up to 25 participants. Register at https://stellingdenhelder.nl/locaties/fort-harssens/
