Four tiles out, greenery in. During National Climate Week – Friday, November 15th to Sunday, November 17th – visitors to De Helderse Vallei can help the environment by exchanging four tiles for free plants.

The municipality of Den Helder is making 50 organic plant kits available for this purpose, containing frost-resistant plants. Those interested in a kit can register between Friday, November 1st and Friday, November 8th via the Helderse Vallei website. Registering early will prevent disappointment, as supplies are limited.

Heavy rain showers
The goal of this campaign is to replace as many paving stones as possible with greenery. This is necessary because the weather in the Netherlands is becoming increasingly extreme. After heavy rainstorms, water can't drain away in an environment full of stones. And all that stone causes temperatures to rise even further during hot periods. The Free Climate-Proof Garden packages – which already delighted several households last year – provide a push in the right direction.

Insect hotel
Are you removing more than four paving stones from your garden? Then create a beautiful insect hotel. A pile of stones is a discreet home to many insects that help keep your garden healthy. You can strengthen the pile by adding layers of loam or natural clay between the stones.

Are you interested in the plant package and would you like to donate four tiles during National Climate Week in return? Be sure to register early in the first week of November, because once they're gone, they're gone. This offer is open to everyone in the Den Helder municipality (one package per Helders household), is free, and registration is required.
