Nearly the entire board of Innerwheel Den Helder presented a gift certificate this morning to Wouter Koopman, manager of Hortus Overzee. Each year, a sum is added to the savings account through the sale of cakes on Japanese Sunday. The amount has grown considerably over the years, with Hortus Overzee being asked if they could recommend a suitable use for the donations.
Innerwheel Den Helder is a club that prioritizes friendship and supports charities. They also lend a hand to the Hortus on Japanese Sunday. Japanese Sunday is a well-attended event every year, featuring performances by a taiko drum group, various workshops, delicious food, and, of course, cakes made by the Innerwheel team. They offer not only the standard baked apple pies, but also savory pies and quiches. By selling these homemade cakes during this event at Hortus Overzee, a substantial amount has been raised over the years. Hortus Overzee used this money to purchase the wedding chairs used for weddings and other festivities. The current chairs were due for replacement, and new ones are very expensive, so this gift certificate is very welcome.
