At the Den Vaderlant Getrouwe monument, you pause together to remember everyone who has fallen since the Second World War. You share this moment with the city.
Reflect on what really matters
This commemoration brings Den Helder together every year. Here, you remember all war victims since the Second World War. It is precisely when commemorating together that remembrance gains extra strength.
Experience a carefully constructed program
From 19:20, you will hear singing by Timna. This will be followed by contributions from Mayor De Boer and the Lyceum aan Zee on behalf of the Helderse students. City poet Yanaika Zomer will also contribute. Music, words, and silence reinforce each other.
Commemorate together in silence
At 7:45 PM, the wreath-laying ceremony will take place accompanied by music. At 7:59 PM, the Last Post will be played by the bugler. This will be followed by two minutes of silence at 8:00 PM. At 8:02 PM, you will sing the first and sixth verses of the Wilhelmus together.
Finish together
Afterwards, you can chat in the Bethel Church. This provides space for meeting and reflection. Here, you experience not only a solemn moment but also a sense of connection. In this way, you take the meaning of May 4th with you into the evening.
