A landscape of imagination and stillness

A stone's throw from Station Den Helder Zuid lies De Nollen – an art landscape that opens your senses. Here, artist Ruud van de Wint (1942–2006) worked on his life's work for twenty-five years.

From museum halls to the dune area

After a successful career in European museums, Van de Wint retired in 1980 to the neglected inland dune area of De Nollen. Here he found the freedom to paint, build, and sculpt in harmony with the landscape.

Known for national work, rooted in Den Helder

Van de Wint created, among other things, the ceiling paintings in Noordeinde Palace and Groningen City Hall, and worked on art in the House of Representatives. Yet he consciously chose this location, where he found space for his ideas about light, color, space, and time.

Experience the whole: art and nature as one entity

De Nollen is not an ordinary museum, but a total experience. A walk through this area is a journey through color, form, and imagination. Everything is interconnected: the objects, the landscape, and your own experience.

Practical information: guided tour only

De Nollen can be visited with a guided tour at 11:00, 13:00, or 15:00. Advance reservation is required. Make sure you are on time and prepared to look, listen, and experience calmly.

Event  Music
Can I be alone without feeling lonely? When we feel embraced by music, being alone can actually have a healing effect. Neo-Romantic composer-pianist DeLange is known for his melancholic melodies that take you into your memories and emotions and make you feel secure in your own presence. DeLange grew up with the sounds of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Satie, and Debussy, and this is reflected in his compositions. Because DeLange experiences music in colors and forms (a condition called synesthesia), composing is for him like creating works of art: painting colorful landscapes with the melody as the main subject.
