The M151 type bunker at Fort Dirksz originally accommodated 28 men. This was divided into 1 officer, 3 non-commissioned officers, and 24 soldiers. A striking feature of this naval design is the placement of the entrances. While it is common in many designs to place these in the same wall, at the M151 they are situated in separate walls. Two walls have a thickness of three meters of reinforced concrete.
The Bunker Museum Den Helder originated from the plan to develop an exhibition about the Atlantic Wall in Den Helder. Not all locations managed by the Stelling Den Helder Foundation were suitable for this, and therefore, in August 2011, a number of volunteers from the foundation took the initiative to refurbish a currently vacant bunker and restore it to such an extent that the public could get a good idea of life in a bunker.
