The theme of the Offshore Experience 2026 is Multi Use: from romance to realism. Multi Use revolves around combining different functions in the same location at sea. Think, for example, of wind farms where space is simultaneously created for nature restoration, aquaculture, or innovative forms of fishing.
That sounds appealing, but in practice, it requires choices. Not everything is possible everywhere, and various interests must be reconciled. Therefore, the Offshore Experience focuses not only on what is technically possible, but primarily on how plans can actually be executed.
During the event, professionals from the business community, government, and knowledge institutions meet. Through conversations, workshops, and debates, developments surrounding the blue economy are discussed, and new connections are formed between parties working on the same North Sea.
Students are also explicitly given a place in the program. For MBO, HBO, and WO students, attention is paid to the opportunities for education and a career within the blue economy. This is particularly important for Den Helder. Developments at sea in the coming years require not only new technology, but above all people who can work with it.
The major changes in the North Sea offer Den Helder the opportunity to further strengthen its position. The city boasts a combination of port, maritime activity, knowledge, education, and practice that is found so close together in few other places.
Precisely for this reason, Den Helder can be a place where new solutions are not only discussed, but also researched, tested, and applied. The Offshore Experience shows just how vast the world beyond the horizon actually is and how much of it is directly connected to the future of Den Helder.
