Do you (as a tourist) need care?

The holiday season has arrived, and with it, more and more tourists are visiting our region. You (as a tourist) may need healthcare.

Please note: In case of a life-threatening situation, always call 112.

Daytime care
Do you need care on weekdays, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM? You can contact any general practitioner in the Den Helder, Hollands Kroon, or Schagen region. Please call the (nearest) practice first.

All general practitioners in the region can be found at: Affiliated general practitioners – HKN General Practitioners

For tourists on Texel, there's a special tourist hotline they can call if they need daytime care (0222 338 900). You can call this number Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM and you will then be directed to the clinic on duty.

Care in the evenings, at night and during the weekend
Outside office hours and at weekends, tourists, like residents of the region, can contact the GP emergency post in case of emergency.
The GP emergency clinic is only for care that cannot wait until the next business day. You must call the GP emergency clinic first:

  • Emergency Square Den Helder: 0223 670 470
  • Emergency GP post Schagen: 0224 224 040
  • Texel GP Emergency Post: 0222 321 143

Costs
If you have Dutch insurance, the costs will be billed directly to your health insurer. Tourists with insurance abroad must pay for the consultation themselves (directly). You can, if necessary, claim the costs from your own insurer.

Other information
For any questions about illness or health, please consult Thuisarts.nl first. For example, if you're experiencing discomfort or are worried about something, or if you want to know what you can do yourself. You can also use Thuisarts.nl to prepare for your doctor's appointment.
If you're unsure about visiting your GP and/or the GP emergency clinic, you can always use the digital "Should I see a doctor?" (MINDD) form, which is available on our website and elsewhere. This self-triage tool helps you assess whether and when to contact your GP and/or the GP emergency clinic. Attached is a poster about Thuisarts.nl and MINDD that you can hang in a public area of your holiday park.

Do you have any questions about care for tourists in our region? Then you can contact the acute care of HKN Huisartsen via [email protected].
