On Wednesday, November 7, 2024, construction officially began on the "De Admiraal" housing project. Between Prins Hendriklaan and Spoorstraat, 42 rental homes, 12 owner-occupied homes, and a McDonald's restaurant will be built. Teams from Helder Vastgoed BV, De Nijs Construction, the municipality of Den Helder, and McDonald's drove four stakes into the ground, marking the official start of construction.

Councillor Petra Bais is pleased with this new project: The housing challenge in Den Helder is more than just a story of numbers. We strive to create unique living environments here. Places where people not only exist but are happy and proud.

The design is inspired by Den Helder's maritime history. The facades reference 19th- and early 20th-century architecture. The homes are all equipped with sustainable and energy-efficient technologies. De Admiraal is also environmentally friendly: special nesting stones for bats and bees, as well as nesting boxes for birds, have been incorporated into the facades.

Helder Vastgoed BV expects construction to begin in the spring of 2025. The entire project will take approximately two years.
