From Friday morning, December 20th, to Sunday evening, January 5th, the Kooy Bridge on the N99 will be open to all traffic in both directions. No bridge work will be carried out during this period. The contractor will resume renovations on Sunday evening, January 5th, at 10:00 PM, and the bridge will be closed again during the day to car traffic in the direction of Den Helder.
The height restriction for vessels with a mast height of 8.30 m remains in effect, and the bridge will not be operated during the Christmas period. Waterway users are advised to check for up-to-date information, including information about other bridges and locks, at www.vaarweginformatie.nl to watch.
Completion of phase 1
The installation of the guardrails marks the completion of the first phase of the renovation. The main carriageway (N99) on the bridge has been completely renovated. The asphalt and guardrails have been replaced, the main carriageway's cover plate has been repaired, the steel under the bridge has been preserved, and various work has been carried out in the bridge basement.
Start phase 2
The second phase of the Kooy Bridge renovation will begin on Sunday evening, January 5th, at 10:00 PM. This phase will involve the renovation of the parallel carriageway (Touwslagersweg) of the Kooy Bridge. Of the two lanes on the main carriageway (N99), one lane will be open for car traffic towards the Afsluitdijk and one lane for cyclists and pedestrians in both directions. Car traffic towards Den Helder will be diverted and should expect significant additional travel time, potentially up to 30 minutes during peak hours.
Emergency services and Connexxion buses can continue to use the bridge in both directions. Motorized traffic that cannot use the detours, such as agricultural vehicles, can use the bridge in both directions outside peak hours. Peak hours are from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The height restriction for shipping remains in effect.
During various night closures, the bridge is closed to road traffic in both directions from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
- Sunday evening, January 5, to Monday morning, January 6, 2025: no through traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, or mopeds will be allowed. Emergency services and Connexxion buses will have access via the bridge.
- Monday evening, January 13, to Thursday morning, January 16, 2025: no through traffic. Pedestrians, cyclists, emergency services, and Connexxion buses will have access via the bridge.
- Monday evening, February 3, to Wednesday morning, February 5, 2025: no through traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, or mopeds will be allowed. Emergency services and Connexxion buses will have access via the marine site.
The renovation of the Kooy Bridge will continue until the end of April, and for a week in May or June, the bridge will be completely closed to all traffic.
