Den Helder – To introduce young people to boatbuilding and the restoration and preservation of nautical heritage, they can attend the EOC Traditional Ships Fair free of charge up to the age of eighteen. It will be held from Friday, November 8th, to Sunday, November 10th, in the Stadshal of the De Kampanje theatre, as well as in adjacent buildings at the Willemsoordwerf complex.
This coming weekend, the Nautical Quarter at the Willemsoord complex will once again be bustling with activity. Not only in the City Hall, but also in the adjacent Medemblikkerloods, in the nave of building 66 (city hall), and in the mechanical workshops in building 73. A new feature at this year's fair is the so-called experience center, set up in a heated outdoor tent. Here, young people will be given woodworking demonstrations, led by experts from the Amersfoort Craftsmanship Center. Mastmaker Piet Blaauw will also demonstrate how wooden masts are made. Master Builder Jan Glazema will be working here with his Youth Shipyard. The Boat Building School will be active in the Medemblikkerloods, and ironwork demonstrations will be given in the mechanical workshops of Museumhaven Willemsoord.
Chairman Michiel Tegelberg of the organizing Foundation, the Traditional Ships Fair: "This time, we especially want to offer young people the opportunity to see firsthand what goes into building boats and restoring and preserving nautical heritage. During a boat-building project at the museum harbor during the summer holidays, we saw how much young people enjoy this and how much satisfaction it gives them. We'd like to build on that at the fair. An added bonus is that by showing their wristband, they can also visit the Navy Museum and the Dorus Rijkers National Lifeguard Museum for three days. In short, more reasons for them to come and see our ship fair.".
