The Royal Netherlands Navy is committed to a safe and stable world, protecting Dutch interests and those of our allies. The Royal Netherlands Navy is deployed worldwide for this purpose.
Together with its strategic partners, the Royal Netherlands Navy ensures peace and security, at sea, from sea, and on land. To do this safely and effectively, the Royal Netherlands Navy continues to innovate, collaborating with other armed forces services, the business community, and knowledge institutes.
Thanks to its maneuverability at sea, the independence of land bases, the logistical independence of naval and marine units, and the ability to both escalate and de-escalate, the navy has ensured our peace and security for over 500 years, both in the Netherlands and worldwide.
The Royal Netherlands Navy is one of the largest employers in the Den Helder region. The naval port alone employs approximately 6,000 people.
The navy will significantly modernize and expand its fleet in the coming years. This will include, for example, a new supply ship, the HNLMS Den Helder.
Other ships will be replaced or undergo major maintenance. These ships, of course, must be operational and maintained. The navy will therefore have hundreds of vacancies to fill in the coming years. Curious about the vacancies the Royal Netherlands Navy is looking to fill in Den Helder? Then take a look at the page for '‘Working at Defense’.
Anyone who thinks the Royal Netherlands Navy is a military stronghold is partly right. Over five thousand military personnel work in Den Helder. On the other hand, there are over two thousand non-military personnel. The Navy is often looking for new colleagues for this group of civilians, as they are called in the Navy.
In a wide variety of roles, civilians work daily to prepare and maintain the Royal Netherlands Navy for deployment worldwide. Most civilian positions are located within the Directorate for Materiel Maintenance (DMI). The DMI is involved in all phases of the development and deployment of a ship, submarine, or radar system.
The DMI shares design experiences, prepares new ships and systems for use, and provides maintenance. Work is underway on high-tech installations such as propulsion, electronics, and weapons systems for (supporting services of) the Ministry of Defence, other ministries, and international partners. These tasks the navy is mainly looking for technically trained personnel
