At the end of Annie Romein-Verschoorlaan stands a remarkable building: the Sri Varatharaja Selvavinayagar Temple. This Hindu temple forms the monumental final piece of the church boulevard in Den Helder.
Unique in Europe
The temple is the only one in Europe built entirely according to the exact proportions of Hindu scriptures. The building was completed in 2001, after two years of construction by fourteen skilled craftsmen from Sri Lanka and India.
Craftsmanship and spirituality
In 2013, the temple was given a 17-meter-high tower, which gives the building its distinctive silhouette. The temple is dedicated to the gods Varatharaja and Ganesha. Visitors experience an atmosphere of devotion and tradition, rooted in centuries-old architecture.
