Every February, love is in the air. Not just any love, but genuine pride for Den Helder, the city where you live, grow, and breathe. In love with Den Helder Residents share their personal connection to the city. No frills, but real stories, artistic expressions, and touching encounters.
We're looking for proud residents who want to share their love for Den Helder. Not with grand words, but with small moments. A walk along the dike. An afternoon with the kids on the beach. A bike ride through the dunes. Stories like that.
As an ambassador, you experience the city and take others with you.
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, more than 200 proud residents gathered on the dike at Kaap Hoofd. Wearing blue sweaters, they formed a large heart, captured from the air by a drone. A powerful symbol of solidarity, pride, and love for Den Helder. Each participant received a special "In Love with Den Helder" sweater in advance, which has since been spotted at holiday destinations worldwide. From Las Vegas to Cornwall: our pride is traveling with us. The photo was officially shared on Valentine's Day, February 14, via social media and the local press – and widely distributed by the residents themselves.
How far does your love for Den Helder go? In 2024, we delved into that question and discovered that sometimes, that love is literally just under the skin. For the campaign, we searched for residents with a Den Helder tattoo: permanent declarations of love for the city.
Top photographer Peter van Aalst impressively captured these tattoos and their proud wearers. The powerful portraits together formed a bold, intimate exhibition at the town hall in Willemsoord, on view starting Valentine's Day. An ode to a city so deeply ingrained that you carry it with you forever.
In Love with Den Helder 2024 was all about photography. In addition to the photo exhibition, residents and other fans of the city could have their portraits taken for free by Helderse photographers at prominent locations in Den Helder.
From the dunes to Willemsoord and a bunker in Julianadorp: we captured people everywhere sharing their love for the city. The result? Joyful and proud images of people who are passionate about Den Helder. The city as their true love.
