A must-see is Fort Kijkduin in Huisduinen, near Den Helder. This impressive fort, dating from 1811, was built by order of Napoleon Bonaparte. Craftsmen and even Spanish prisoners of war worked on this masterpiece. Although parts of the defenses have disappeared over the years, much of the fort remains.
