Eyewitness account of a bombing raid on the Royal Shipyard

Den Helder, March 7, 1941

Today, Den Helder was bombed again, and this time in broad daylight. Around 14:45, the Royal Shipyard was attacked by Allied bombers. Two bombs landed on the new dock, one of which failed to detonate. The machine preservation facility was also severely damaged. Although the attack took place during working hours, those present were able to reach a shelter in time. As a result, there were no fatalities. However, four people were seriously injured, including AC de Leeuw from Emmastraat, who was a stoker in the Royal Navy before the war.
