Board in Julianadorp

For a morning on the water, Laura, Martijn, Linde, and Maartje drove to Camping Julianadorp aan Zee. You don't have to camp here to rent a canoe: even if you are not a camping guest, you can simply head out onto the water. The family opted for a two-hour paddle along the canoe route through Julianadorp.

The route proved easy to navigate, even without much canoeing experience. As soon as they paddled through the tall reeds, the scenery changed. The road and campsite disappeared from view, making way for water, reeds, and birds. Along the way, they saw kingfishers, reed warblers, and swans, among others.

With a bingo card, every bird and reed bed becomes interesting.

Searching from the water

For Linde and Maartje, the adventure began right at the start. They were given a bingo card and set off enthusiastically searching for everything listed on it. As a result, they not only looked ahead but also searched thoroughly on the water, among the reeds, and along the banks.

Halfway through, the family moored at a jetty for a drink and a cookie. Afterwards, they took the same route back. By then, it had become a bit busier, and they encountered stand-up paddleboarders, other canoeists, and a sloop. Naturally, they said hello to everyone.

Meanwhile, Maartje discovered that you can also enjoy a canoe trip perfectly well without constantly paddling along. She sat comfortably in the front and mainly kept a close eye on everything there was to see.

A complete morning outdoors

After two hours of paddling, they were back at the campsite. Linde and Maartje handed in their bingo cards and received a surprise. The morning concluded with an ice cream at the campsite. For Laura, the surprise lay mainly in how quickly you find yourself in the middle of nature just off the road. Moreover, you don't need to be an experienced canoeist for it. Hop in, paddle, and a few minutes later, Julianadorp suddenly looks very different from the water.
Discover Julianadorp from the water

Go out on the water yourself?

Laura, Martijn, Linde, and Maartje rented their canoe at Camping Julianadorp aan Zee, but there are various places along the canoe route where you can rent a canoe. Do you have your own canoe? Then there are also opportunities to get onto the water from various locations.

The canoe route takes you through Julianadorp and the surroundings of Den Helder. You can decide for yourself how long you stay out and stop along the way for a break. This way, you can discover the area from the water at your own pace.

"You don't have to go far from here to have a fun time together."

Laura, Martijn, Linde (7) and Maartje (5) are true Helderse explorers. They love going out together and now know that you don't have to go far from home for an adventure. Linde and Maartje were the first children to try out the Den Helder Logbook and enthusiastically went looking for special places and hidden stories in their own city.
