City Hall Den Helder has been named the winner of the BNA Award 'Best Building of the Year' in the category 'Most Stimulating Environment' by a national professional jury!
During the award ceremony, architectural firm Office Winhov, together with Van Hoogevest Architecten, won prizes for buildings 66 and 72. “The jury is full of praise for this project. The municipality’s choice to locate at this site is bold; the public function of the city hall enriches the area. The architects carefully considered the identity and qualities of the existing buildings. Instead of seeking contrast—the conventional approach—they built upon the existing structures in a contemporary way within the new sections. As a result, the spatial experience is enhanced; when you step into the public hall, you can sense the history.”
The award is a great compliment to the municipality, which deliberately chose a location at Willemsoord, in the historic heart of the city, and to Zeestad as the client.
