On Wednesday afternoon, Den Helder was once again buzzing with energy and sportsmanship. The SV Noordkop track was packed with proud family members and enthusiastic children. Over a thousand Helderse students from various primary schools gave it their all during the 30th annual Scholierencrossloop.

With the support of Univé and Albert Heijn, Team Sportservice Noordkop, in collaboration with SV Noordkop, organized a fantastic school cross-country run. The young participants beamed with enthusiasm as they ran across the field.

Festive Kickoff: Around three o'clock, the Scholierencrossloop (School Cross Country) began with a festive opening ceremony. Team Sportservice Noordkop organized an impressive ceremony inspired by the Olympic Games' national parade. Several primary schools participated in the opening ceremony, with each school appointing two children to represent them and walk to the center field. To thunderous applause from their proud families, the children entered the center field. Finally, the audience enjoyed a fantastic performance by the Rik Niks dance school.

Kids go for gold

After a short speech by Councillor Fotigui Camara, in which he emphasized the importance of sport and expressed his joy at the continued existence of the School Cross Country, it was time for the students to run. The youngest participants from Years 1 and 2, as well as the frame running participants, had already completed the 400 meters before the opening ceremony. Now it was the turn of the children from Years 3 through 8 to take on the 1000-meter challenge.

It was an intense few laps, during which the children pushed themselves to their limits and broke personal records. At the finish line, there were all sorts of expressions; some could have easily run another lap, while others were relieved it was over. After receiving their well-deserved pennant, the children received a bowl of fruit and vegetables, sponsored by De Jong Assurantiën. They could also grab some water at the JOGG water station.

Ceremony for the winners

After each lap, the five fastest runners were honored on the podium. They received a trophy and felt like true Olympic medalists for a moment. At the end of the day, the winning school was also announced. Algemene Basisschool Comenius was head and shoulders above the rest and received the winner's trophy.
