On August 15, commemorate the victims of the war against Japan and the occupation of the Dutch East Indies. Reflect on the end of the Second World War for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The commemoration takes place at the monument “For Those Who Fell”. Everyone is welcome.

Reflect together on a shared past

The war experiences and the subsequent displacement still have an impact. Many Dutch people carry a story of the Dutch East Indies war in their families. During this public commemoration, that story receives attention and space. In this way, you remain connected to a history that is still close at hand.

Follow a subdued program

The commemoration lasts from 11:00 to 12:00. After the opening remarks, the flag will be lowered to half-mast. This will be followed by the reflection, the Lord's Prayer, and one minute of silence. The mayor of Den Helder and representatives of the second and third generations will also speak.

Lay a flower and then meet.

After the speeches, wreaths and floral arrangements are laid. The commemoration concludes with the Last Post. From 12:00 to 14:30, there will be a nasi bungkus meal at Hotel Den Helder. Please register for this via [email protected].
