Discover Fort Kijkduin during the national Forts Festival with guided tours, special stories, exhibitions, and feeding presentations.

Discover Fort Kijkduin during the Forts Festival with guided tours, fascinating stories, exhibitions, and feeding presentations. From September 5 to 13, there is much to discover. Dive into the history of the fort. Take a look behind the scenes or visit the North Sea Aquarium. All activities are free with the purchase of an admission ticket.

Discover how the fort was saved

Fort Kijkduin has been open for thirty years since June 2026. During the restoration tour, you will discover a special chapter. In the late 1980s, the fort was severely neglected. Even demolition and new construction were discussed. You will hear how restoration gave the historic fort a new future. The tour lasts approximately one hour.

The restoration tours are on September 7, 8, and 11. They start at 11:00 and 12:00. Prefer to go further back in time? Then join a regular guided tour. This departs from the Fortcafé on September 5, 8, 10, and 12 at 11:30.

Look behind doors that normally remain closed.

During the treasure chamber tour, you will see remarkable historical objects. A guide will take you behind the scenes. View bullets, ancient coins, prehistoric bones, and works of art. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. You can join on September 7 and 8 at 3:30 PM.

There is also plenty to discover in the North Sea Aquarium. Animal keepers talk about the marine animals during feeding presentations. The presentations take place daily, except on Fridays. They start at 12:30, 14:30, and 15:30. You can feed the fish yourself, while supplies last.

Experience the stories of Fort Kijkduin

Additionally, explore the fort route and various exhibitions. At 'A Soldier for a Day', you will discover the mobilization period. Children experience firsthand what soldier life was like. Together, you will go on a journey of discovery through the fort. The revamped exhibition about Chris the Sperm Whale tells the story of the Whalers of Huisduinen.

Plan your visit between September 5 and 13, 2026. Fort Kijkduin is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Purchase your ticket in advance via the website. You can also pay at the ticket counter on the day of your visit.
