On Tuesday, April 21, Wouter Maas will give a lecture at the School 7 Library. He will take you on his quest for the hidden language of art. From light to numbers and architectural symbolism – every symbol tells a story. What did the artist mean by it? And does that change over time and culture?
Hidden layers and ancient stories
Symbols connect people with their history, beliefs, and values. Wouter Maas shows how a single symbol conveys power in one culture, but has the opposite meaning in another. He also examines how meanings have changed between the 16th century and the present.
Jubilee lecture in a long tradition
The lecture is part of the anniversary program of Lodge Willem Frederik Karel, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary within Den Helder. This evening is part of a series of lectures, each with a different perspective. Expect a different speaker every third Tuesday of the month.
Practical and reservations
The lecture begins at 7:30 PM and lasts until approximately 10:00 PM. Admission is €10.00, including two refreshments. Reservations can be made through KopGroep Bibliotheken.
