The Royal Netherlands Marine Band, together with Carel Kraayenhof (bandoneon), presents a musical tribute to a special and moving moment in recent Dutch history. On February 2, 2002, Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and Máxima Zorreguieta exchanged vows, a day that many still remember vividly. Central to this program is that one unforgettable moment: the emotional performance of Adiós Nonino, during which the world witnessed the famous “royal tear.” Together with Carel Kraayenhof, the Marine Band returns to this intense memory and brings this moment back to life.

But Silver Tears is more than a look back. It is a musical journey through 25 years of connection, love, and shared history of the royal couple, from that one moving beginning to the present. In a rich and varied program, memories are set to music and emotions are made palpable anew.

Let yourself be carried away by the fantastic sounds of the Royal Netherlands Marine Band and the penetrating voice of the bandoneon, and experience how music connects past and present, in a story that continues to this day.

Neo-Romantic composer-pianist DeLange is known for his melancholic melodies that take you into your memories and emotions and make you feel secure in your own presence. DeLange grew up with the sounds of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Satie, and Debussy, and this is reflected in his compositions. Because DeLange experiences music in colors and forms (a condition called synesthesia), composing is for him like creating works of art: painting colorful landscapes with the melody as the main subject.
