In the 1950s and 60s, Johnny Cash realized his own 'American dream'. He worked his way up from a cotton picker's son to a superstar with his own television show. He was a true storyteller, but he didn't always stick strictly to the truth. Joost Botman delves into the history of Cash, 'The Man in Black'. His story is full of contradictions: drug use and religion, patriotism and conceit, a family man with a fascination for dark themes.

In The True Johnny Cash, Botman takes you on a moving journey through a performance, in which he tells the story of the iconic singer with the distinctive dark voice in a captivating and sometimes dryly humorous manner. Botman's warm voice is a perfect match for Cash's songs. Guitarist Jos Kolenberg accompanies Botman.

Joost Botman is a guitarist and singer. He toured the country for five years with a music theater program about Simon & Garfunkel.
