The Balgzandpolder is entirely dedicated to birdlife. You'll always see birds resting or foraging here. During high tide in the Wadden Sea, there are especially many birds to be seen. They can often be admired from a short distance via a viewing screen. Birds you can spot include spoonbills, many species of ducks, large flocks of oystercatchers and redshanks, and rarer birds like spotted redshank and greenshank. A bird cliff was constructed next to the Balgzandpolder at the end of 2016. And with success; it's teeming with birds! Nesting habitats for sand martins have been created in the walls of the cliff. The cliff is five meters high and inaccessible to foxes.
