Experience the National Rescue Museum in Den Helder!
Discover all about the heroic work of lifeguards at the National Lifeguard Museum in Den Helder! Step into the shoes of a real lifeguard and experience the thrill and action of rescue work. During the sailing season, you can even sail on a real lifeboat – an unforgettable experience for all ages!
There's something for everyone at the museum. Experience the wild seas in the sailing simulator, feel the force of winds of force 10, and learn Morse code by sending messages yourself. We also have an interactive audio tour for adults and children to discover even more impressive stories of the rescuers of the past and present.
Kidsproof Museum
The National Rescue Museum has been one of the Netherlands' most kid-friendly museums for years, and for good reason. With us, children are welcome to touch almost anything and board many boats to feel like real lifeguards. Every year, our young museum inspectors are thrilled with the interactive experiences we offer!
Listen to the stories of the past
On the Willemsoord site, which houses the Rescue Museum, you can also take an audio tour. This audio tour, which starts outside the museum, lets you discover the rich history of this site, its inhabitants, and the many old ships moored here. A beautiful piece of Helders cultural heritage comes to life here. There's also a special audio tour for children. The outdoor audio tours are available for a small fee of €2. Inside the museum, the audio tours are free.
