The St. Peter and Paul Church is a striking church building in the heart of Den Helder. Since 1840, this Catholic church has been a beacon in the city.
Waterstaat Church with a rich history
This church is one of two water board churches in Den Helder. The building was designed by Hermanus Hendrik Dansdorp, a supervisor with Rijkswaterstaat (the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management). The tower followed four years later, in 1844. Together with the parsonage and walled garden, it forms a historic ensemble.
Connected to city and faith
The church belongs to the Roman Catholic parish of Den Helder. The monumental interior contains a valuable organ and is still used for services. Its location on Kerkgracht makes it a recognizable point between the city and the dike.
