Passersby get a preview of Het Warenhuys' offerings

An iconic building in Den Helder is becoming an iconic building again: Vroom & Dreesmann continues as Het Warenhuys, with 36 rental apartments, shops and in the basement of the Kunsthal. Around to get passers-by 'in the mood' during the performance, There will also be a special construction fence. With images for which a computer had to calculate for twenty hours. "Actually is it's just art.''’

Ronald Visser (43) is the mastermind behind the design. He has been working as a multimedia designer at the Helderse company Druktemaker since 2017, where
he also builds websites, takes photographs, and makes video films.

Right by the sea

It is common to use construction sites of the numerous projects for to shield Housing Foundation/Helder Vastgoed with a construction fence or –
fence. Nowadays, these are used to inform passers-by about what lies behind that fence, but also to non-residents point out all the beautiful things that Den Helder has to offer. For example, the fence around the houses under construction on the
Weststraat/Keizersgracht the passing Texel visitors to the pleasures of living right by the sea.

As mentioned, Het Warenhuys promises to be a remarkable building. At the same time, Nieuwediepers and tourists must, in the coming
facing work in progress for one and a half to two years. And facing a fence that stands quite prominently on Beatrixstraat. The question for Helder Vastgoed BV, among others, was therefore: what goes on the fence?

Ronald Visser: "I discussed that with my colleagues Sander de Roos and Tess." van Groenigen were brainstorming. We soon settled on shop windows, with three-dimensional images of the type of products that will soon be in The department store is going to be sold. Such as shoes, perfumes, drugstore products and household items. I have mastered it computer program with which you can create those 3D images.''’

Lego

,"You start with a block that you build up with different elements. The It is just like a kind of Lego. You have to match a number of images of objects. purchase. These are available in special webshops on the internet. Next, you determine the composition.''’
To enhance the 3D effect, light and shadow require extra attention. Ultimately, the computer has to create a complete, almost lifelike image from this. This is called rendering. "That requires a lot of computing power from such a computer. In this case, it took twenty hours." Laughing: "I just set it to work right before the weekend and went home. When I came back on Monday, it was finished."’
Making a 3D image is one thing, creating images for a A 75-meter-long construction fence is a different matter. You're talking about ten panels.
which together form a twelve-meter shop window. There will be four shops, so the fence on Beatrixstraat four shop windows. Images with information regarding the project and the parties involved form the link between the shop windows.

Dots

Images are formed with so-called pixels, tiny dots in a specific color that together form a single whole. In the case of the For construction fencing, you're talking about hundreds of thousands of pixels. Visser says he is proud of the result. "It is a pity that the fence
stands close to trees and bicycle parking spaces, otherwise the The images came into their own even more beautifully. But still, I hope that
people like the result so much that they start taking selfies with the 3D- plates as a background. Because actually, it is just art.''’
