The Kroontjesbunker: secret command center in the dunes

Track flight movements with precision

Air raids were coordinated in the bunker during the Second World War. Using a glass plotter wall, soldiers relayed flight movements to anti-aircraft positions. The data came from radar stations along the coast and from positions further afield, such as Zandvoort and Terschelling. This created a chain of observation points that could accurately track every flight movement.

In recovery: future museum in the making

Three dedicated volunteers are working on restoring the bunker to its original state. The goal is to turn the Kroontjesbunker into a small-scale museum. The interior still exudes the atmosphere of a high-pressure command center.

Mammoth radar

Discover the Mammut radar in the Kroontjesbunker and dive into a remarkable piece of war history. View a miniature version or a special presentation of this German radar system. You will discover how this advanced radar operated during World War II.

The Mammut FuMG 42 had an enormous fixed antenna wall. This allowed aircraft to be detected up to approximately 300 kilometers away. During your visit, you will learn more about this remarkable warfare technology.

Can be visited on selected days
