Discover Fort Dirksz Admiraal during the Open Monument Days

Strategic fort with centuries of history

Fort Dirksz Admiraal was built in 1812-1813 as part of the Den Helder Defence Line. It is situated in an advanced position, from which Fort Oostoever and Fort Erfprins could be protected. A clever location in what was then still marshland.

Named after a hero of the Eighty Years' War

The fort bears the name of Cornelis Dirkszoon, former mayor of Monnickendam and admiral of the North Holland fleet. In this way, his name lives on at a place that, like him, is strategic and steadfast.

Traces of war still visible

During the Second World War, the Germans built an anti-aircraft battery at the fort. It is still completely intact. During the Cold War, the Royal Netherlands Army used the site again, thereby continuing its military function.

Visit the bunkers: Fl245 'Maschinenzentrale für Flak' and M151 'Bereitschaftsraum'!

During Open Monument Days, you can visit a special bunker: the Fl245 'Maschinenzentrale für Flak' (Engine Center for Flak), complete with engine room and its own switching station. Additionally, Bunker M151 is open, which accommodated 28 personnel. Here, you can get an idea of the various rooms and view a WWII collection. A unique glimpse into the military past!

Bob is a genius, but the world doesn't realize it. He has good intentions, and even better ideas. Ideas to help the world, only the world often acts as if he himself is the one who needs help. This performance is an attempt to reach a compromise on this matter.
