Would you like to join a tour of this magnificent fort? The "Fort op de Harssens," unknown to many, was built as an armored fort by the Dutch between 1880 and 1886, then and now part of Stelling Den Helder (Fortress Den Helder). What will you experience? An authentic fort (without furnishings, etc.) where time seems to have stood still. The atmosphere of 1900 is still palpable.

Would you like to join a tour of this magnificent fort? The "Fort op de Harssens," unknown to many, was built as an armored fort by the Dutch between 1880 and 1886 and was then and still is part of Stelling Den Helder.

What will you experience?

An authentic fort (without furnishings, etc.) where time seems to have stood still. The atmosphere of 1900 is still palpable. Who used the fort? In the early years, it was the Dutch, during World War II, the German occupiers, and later the Royal Netherlands Navy.

What should you take into account?

It's a bit dark in some places (the guides have flashlights), and there are thresholds. The corridors are sometimes narrow, and everything is underground. The fort is not wheelchair accessible. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Fort Harssens is located on military grounds. Access is only granted if you have registered in advance with your first name, last name, and date of birth.

How do you get there?

The fort is located beneath the harbor office and the Royal Netherlands Navy Yacht Club on Bevesierweg, Den Helder. More information will be provided upon reservation. It is important that you reserve a spot at least five days before the scheduled tour. Each tour can accommodate a maximum of 25 people.

Please register at least 5 days in advance. Please have your ID ready when you register for security reasons.
