On May 4, you reflect on their names and stories. Here, you commemorate the 118 Helderse Jews who were deported and murdered during the Second World War. This moment is moving, precisely because of the simplicity and the significance of the place.
Pause at a charged place
The Jewish Memorial Site is located behind the St. Peter and St. Paul Church. The monument was unveiled in 2005. Here, the memory of these fellow citizens finds a permanent place. You can feel how close this history still is.
Experience a commemoration with words and music
The commemoration starts at 6:30 PM with music by Kunstzin. This is followed by the opening by Heidi Stobbe. Regina Kikkert will recite a poem. In this way, you experience a program that brings peace, reflection, and depth.
Commemorate together and walk along
During the gathering, stones are laid at the Jewish Memorial Site. That small gesture makes the remembrance personal and tangible. At 6:50 PM, the silent procession departs for the Vliegermonument on Tweede Vroonstraat. You walk along and continue the commemoration together.
