We know Marjolijn from her previous, sold-out shows about panic, worrying, and pills. Her honest, deadpan cabaret full of self-mockery is a genre in itself and draws full houses throughout the Netherlands. In this show, she wonders why we only appreciate life when someone is dead. Or sick. Couldn't that happen a little sooner? Do people have to die before we feel alive? Black humor, sensitive songs, and shameless stories; that is Van Kooten through and through. It certainly won't be her fault if she doesn't.

The Press:

‘Besides the humor, there is a lot of weight to the themes. She lets the audience wrestle along with existential issues: what and how do you experience grief in your life, and how do you pick everything up again?’

‘Laughing at the dark, at the discomfort, and maybe also a little at yourself.’

‘'Psychiatric cabaret, she calls it herself, and that is accurate. Van Kooten has more or less made it her own genre. It attracts people who have seen the lows, and who can now chuckle with relief at what wasn't funny back then. The combination of dark humor, shameless openness, and vulnerable songs hits exactly where it needs to.'’

‘'It Won't Be My Fault' is not a lighthearted evening of cabaret, but an honest and sharp glimpse into the mind of someone who experiences the world just a little more intensely. You laugh, you swallow, you think – and you are grateful that she dares to share all of this out loud. I love theater

‘Candid glimpses into the therapy kitchen lead to recognized laughter.’

‘Another song, an enumeration of all the things that passed through her hands when she had to clear out his house, is a moving highlight: 'Dode dingen' by Jos Brink in a new guise. The song has beautiful lyrics and is beautifully set to music; her voice is suddenly lifted and imbued with a sparkling, different color.‘

‘'What is your added value in life and what should be on your gravestone? Van Kooten does not have the answers. She tries to accept who she is, with all her shortcomings, and has created a beautiful, honest portrayal of it.' Theater Newspaper
