Step aboard the former warship the Bonaire

Her Majesty's Bonaire is more than an innocent-looking ship! On board, you can take a virtual tour of the engine room with the two fire-tube boilers using VR simulation.

From 1877 to 1902, the Bonaire served as a warship for the Royal Netherlands Navy. Despite her seemingly innocent appearance, this ship was far from harmless.

Impressive history

The Bonaire is a unique example of a fascinating period in Dutch shipbuilding and shipping and is currently being restored as fully as possible. The ship is currently located in Dock 1 of the Oude Rijkswerf Willemsoord, once known as the Maritiem Etablissement Willemsoord. Plans for the construction of this establishment were actually drawn up during Napoleon's rule over the Netherlands. King William I, the first king after the French era, adopted these plans, and in 1822 the establishment was put into use as a repair facility for the country's fleet.
