Visit FS Elbe 1 on July 7, 8, and 9 and admire two lightships together in the Museum Harbour.

This special lightship calls at Den Helder. You see not one, but two bright red lightships together. That makes for a striking sight in the Museum Harbour.

Discover a ship with a long history

Lightship Elbe 1 was located in the mouth of the Elbe. Various lightships served at this location since 1816. The ship coming to Den Helder bears the name Bürgermeister O'Swald II. Between 1948 and 1988, it served as a beacon in the mouth of the Elbe.

View a self-sailing lightship

This ship is autonomous. This distinguishes it from Dutch lightships, which depend on tugboats. It is precisely this that makes a visit extra interesting. You discover a remarkable difference in maritime history.

Experience a remarkable moment in the harbor

You don't see two bright red lightships side by side every day. That makes this visit extra appealing. You experience the Museum Harbour in a different way. Come and take a look and experience this maritime setting up close.
