In the city center of Den Helder, Housing Foundation Den Helder/Helder Vastgoed is developing the 'Het Warenhuys' project (former V&D building) on Beatrixstraat. The project consists of 36 rental apartments and shops on the ground floor. To realize the 36 rental homes and the shops, a final farewell was made to the dome of the former V&D building—loved by some and detested by others. Not without reason, but to give space, light, and character to the new eye-catcher.
The building has been completely gutted. The contractor is working hard on the new construction. Visitors to the city are enthusiastic about the new building. At the moment, Housing Foundation Den Helder/Helder Vastgoed is still in talks with several parties for a spot in the retail plinth. Hopefully, there will be a space for Kunsthal 45 and the Art Lending service in the basement.
The design is by the Rotterdam architectural firm Happel, Cornelisse, Verhoeven. The idea is that the cold concrete of the 1960s makes way for brick and challenging masonry. The rear of the V&D building will also be given a sophisticated appearance.
Construction started in the first quarter of 2024. The first, and largest, phase of the project will be completed at the end of 2026.
During construction, the northern carriageway of Beatrixstraat is being used by the contractor near the Warenhuys.
The homes will be offered on in due course WoonMatchKopNH.nl. You must be registered as a home seeker to respond to these properties.
