Sand sculptures in unexpected places

From May to the end of August, Julianadorp transforms into an open-air sand gallery. Impressive sand sculptures are displayed at four unique locations throughout the village. Each artwork tells a story. About life by the sea, tulip fields, the royal family, or the freedom of a timeless beach day.

In the heart of the village, you will find sculptures in places you might already know, such as the cozy Loopuytpark or the green Landalpark Ooghduyne. Stop for coffee at beach bar Zee van Tijd and watch the coast come to life in sand. Or combine shopping with admiration at the Dorperweerth shopping center. Additionally, a smaller sand sculpture will be on display at the De Riepen shopping center and at the Junior College!

The sculptures are situated in accessible locations: the cozy Loopuytpark, Landalpark Ooghduyne, at beach bar Zee van Tijd, Junior College, and shopping centers Dorperweerth and De Riepel.

How are these artworks actually created?

Sand sculptures seem almost impossible. Yet they are created simply with sand, water, patience, and craftsmanship. Curious how that works? In the Q&A, you will discover step by step how sand art comes to life.

Sand sculptures through the eyes of Peter

Together with Kirsti, Peter explored the Zandspektakel Route by bicycle. Along the way, he was moved not only by the sculptures, but also by the tranquility, the variety, and the quality of the surroundings.

Linde and Maartje discover the sand sculptures

The sand sculptures are scattered across various locations in Julianadorp. You can decide for yourself where to start and which places to combine. The route is easy to do by bike, and along the way you can stop at the beach, a restaurant or café, or a place where the children can play for a while.

Be sure to take the time to look closely together. As Linde and Maartje discovered, you often see much more in a sand sculpture than you think at first glance.
