Helderse shopping streets are becoming greener, more beautiful, and better protected against flooding

In 2026 and 2027, the shopping streets will undergo a major makeover. Not only will the sewer system be renewed to reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall, but the area's appearance will also receive a fresh boost with new paving and more greenery.

Currently, additional preparations are underway to select a contractor in the short term.

The intention is to work around the busy periods in the city centre as much as possible and to ensure that the accessibility of the shops, both for customers and emergency services, is as optimal as possible. Zeestad maintains close contact with the HOB business association regarding this.

The project involves replacing the sewage system and redesigning the street. Planting beds will be created on one side of the street, with careful consideration given to the entrances to the shops. These beds are intended to give the streets a green, attractive appearance. Light poles will also be installed in these beds. Visitors can easily walk from one side of the street to the other through openings between the planting beds.

Shopkeepers are invited to participate: a flower box or greenery on the facade not only makes your shop more attractive but also helps drain rainwater and combat heat stress. Together, we will turn Keizerstraat and Spoorstraat into an inviting, future-proof shopping environment!

It will soon become clear which contractor will carry out the renovation.

The Kroonpassage is being redeveloped. Part of the Kroonpassage will remain but is being renovated to accommodate a new supermarket and retail space. The remaining part of the Kroonpassage will be demolished to make room for a new square. In addition to creating a pleasant environment, parking is being improved, and the design of the square takes the changing climate into account.
Construction of the Admiraal is in full swing! In this final section of Halter Bellevue, 54 homes (12 for sale and 42 for rent) and a 450 m² McDonald's are being realized.
Zeestad has started the renovation of Koningstraat, from Oostslootstraat to Spoorstraat. During these works, the sewage system is also being renewed. The project is being carried out in phases so that the neighborhood remains accessible and disruption is kept to a minimum.
