Urban renewal on the edge of the Helderse city center

Projects

The city exudes an atmosphere of renewal and pride. Outdated buildings are being extensively renovated or making way for stylish new construction, allowing the city to retain its unique character while simultaneously moving forward with a breath of fresh air. Be surprised by the transformation of iconic buildings such as the former V&D building, the former Post Office, or, for example, the old Mastenloods at Willemsoord. The buildings are being extensively renovated and give the city character.

The Kroonpassage is being redeveloped. Part of the Kroonpassage will remain but is being renovated to accommodate a new supermarket and retail space. The remaining part of the Kroonpassage will be demolished to make room for a new square. In addition to creating a pleasant environment, parking is being improved, and the design of the square takes the changing climate into account.
Construction of the Admiraal is in full swing! In this final section of Halter Bellevue, 54 homes (12 for sale and 42 for rent) and a 450 m² McDonald's are being realized.
Zeestad has started the renovation of Koningstraat, from Oostslootstraat to Spoorstraat. During these works, the sewage system is also being renewed. The project is being carried out in phases so that the neighborhood remains accessible and disruption is kept to a minimum.
The area around the Ruyghweg and Spoorweghaven offers ample opportunities to develop into an attractive residential area, with a focus on strengthening the historic Defence Line between Fort Westoever and Fort Dirksz Admiraal – a valuable addition to the surroundings.

A new residential area on the sea dike of the future – that is the Dijkkwartier in Den Helder. A nationally unique project that demonstrates how two current, major challenges are being tackled in combination: the housing shortage and responding to climate change.
Keizerstraat and Spoorstraat are set to receive a major makeover. The sewer system is being renewed, and the appearance is getting a fresh boost with new paving and more greenery. The exact start date depends on the selected contractor.
This year, the urban design for the final phase of the city park is being updated and developed into a feasible plan, with attention to various themes such as climate, parking, safety, and meeting places.
New functions are still being added to Willemsoord, which is why it is becoming increasingly important to provide good access to the site. The New Bridge has now been put into use. The crossing will also be modified at the beginning of this year.
Zeestad has redesigned the public space at the new homes on Oostslootstraat / Koningstraat. The work was combined with sewerage works, meaning work was also carried out in parts of Loodsgracht and Hoogstraat.
Next to the new municipal office and city hall, a bicycle shed has been built for bicycle parking. This sustainable and modular shed accommodates over one hundred bicycles.
In Den Helder, atop the Zeedijk and perpendicular to the coastline, the Seasaw rises: a gigantic, walkable infinity symbol made of 3D-printed sustainable material. The Seasaw moves with the tides and connects the sea and the city: it is visible from afar whether it is high or low tide.
With the new city hall, Den Helder has become even more beautiful! Zeestad developed the new city hall at Willemsoord for the municipality. All public functions are housed in the former Mastenloods (66). And the municipal civil servants have their workplace in the City Office (72).
